Health Services careers allow you to benefit from excellent job prospects while helping other people. The aging population places greater demand on health care, especially as chronic health conditions become more pervasive. At the same time, new awareness of alternative medicines and therapies has led patients to seek out a wider range of treatment.
All health care facilities need support staff such as Medical Secretaries, Medical Billing and Coding experts, Medical Transcriptionists and Dental Hygienists. Demand is soaring in all of these fields.
Level of study needed for a career in the Health Services varies. Physicians and Surgeons require the highest level of education and training beyond a four-year college degree. Administrative and support jobs generally require less than 4 years of college education. For example, two-year programs resulting in certificates or associate degrees are the minimum standard credential for occupations such as Dental Hygienist or Radiologist.
